CBS buys Howard Lindzon’s brain

snipshot_e415m1plw7t6.jpgOkay, CBS didn’t buy Howard Lindzon’s brain — but it is paying a substantial sum (how substantial is still up for debate, since the original report of $5-million has apparently been denied) for what he helped to create with Wallstrip, the daily video-blog on Wall Street and finance hosted by the lovely and talented Lindsay Campbell. And apart from what appears to be some lingering bad blood between Howard and Duncan Riley — who has written about it for TechCrunch and 901am (sorry Thord), as well as his own blog — I think most people are happy to see Howard do well. He took a chance with Wallstrip, and it has paid off. And according to Fred Wilson’s post about the deal, CBS is not acquiring Wallstrip just for Lindsay (as Duncan and others have suggested) but for the expertise in developing and distributing online video, which is something CBS really needs to figure out. In any case, congrats to Howard and the team.

Nice post, but last time I checked my name isn't Duncan Riley and although Duncan did write for 901am a while back, I'm the one who's written the post you linked as well as a few previous ones about Wallstrip.

    Cheers,
Thord Daniel Hedengren, obviously not of 901am fame... ;)
  • FYI, I don't think Dunc works for 901am anymore (the post you linked to is written by Thord). Not disagreeing that there's bad blood (I wouldn't know), just that the 901am post wasn't Dunc's :-)
  • Matthew,

"And apart from what appears to be some lingering bad blood between Howard and Duncan Riley — who has written about it for TechCrunch and 901am, as well as his own blog "

Just to clarify, the blogger who wrote the piece on Wallstrip for 901am.com is Mr. Thord Daniel Hedengren and not Duncan Riley.

My apologies, Thord -- thanks for letting me know. And thanks to Minic and Jeremy too. That's what I get for posting so soon after a long weekend :-)

Honest, Thord, I do know who you are, I swear.
  • omg whatever! because of your error, I ended up going to Duncan's site only to find out the news that Croweded House is reuniting!

oh mathew, the things i learn from your site.....it never stops.

See? Even when I make a mistake, I can't help but be helpful :-)
  • I'm not sure what the bad blood is suppose to be? Questioning the deal doesn't constitute a personal attack, I know of Howard in passing but I've never met the guy so prior to today I've never really formed any strong opinion either way. The personal insults from Howard post this news though does paint a specific picture of him that isn't positive, I've now asked him and another investor to explain the deal to me and I've not received an answer, the best way to counter my concerns over the deal would have been a factual response, instead I received derogatory comments. What is it they say about people who resort to this style of abuse? perhaps it's a reflection of their own insecurities? for me the story is over, I've got an inbox full of Web 2.0 companies to look at and news to write about so its not even close to being something I intend on dwelling on and I do once again congratulate the investors and team behind WallStrip on the deal.
  • Thanks Matthew.
