Given the high standards of the overall event I can see why the audience might have gone a little nuts. Also the fact that audiences can now share real time feelings with entire world shows that things have changed a little for presenters. If their gut says they don't like you there is no time for rationalisation - the tweets just go off into cyberspace (it is almost like the id is being set free).
