Creating a top blog: So easy a kid can do it

Came across a great story at CNET, in a post that SEO (search engine optimization) blogger Stephen Spencer wrote about his 16-year-old daughter Chloe and her website. As she told a recent conference, Chloe loved Neopets so much that she wanted to set up a website about them, so with her dad’s help she looked up some popular keywords and built a blog on WordPress. He says she is now making close to $1,000 a month.

After talking with Stephan recently, it was clear to me from what he said about Chloe that she’s wiser than most of the “internet marketers” out there. I guess it’s easier when your dad has been doing that stuff for over a decade. :-)

BTW, she built the site – which is mostly for the US audience – while living in New Zealand…so she even understands the global nature of online marketing.

As search-engine optimization is all about Web standards and the younger you are the more you understand that, I’m not surprised at all. Now if only your own markup were more semantic. (Hint: H4 never follows H3.)

    Nice…passion. Anyone can do it.

    Thanks, Rehan — that’s fascinating.

And Joe, I’m using the Cutline theme just the way it came — any markup issues are Chris Pearson’s fault :-)

Doesn’t it just show how egalitarian a place the net still is … so far… & despite the incresing dominance of the hugies?
